- For fuel, go to the avenue Geoffroy Saint Hilaire, three
service stations are installed on this avenue , with
almost the same prices and are substantially lower than
competing supermarkets. One can see that the station Leclerc is still
cheaper than supermarchéLeclerc located at 500 m. Similarly,
the small station of the Casino is still cheaper than the Giant Casino
located at 800 m. NEW:
Var
matin publishes daily prices of key stations of Hyères. Make
the following account: € 0.05 per litre of winning the X 50 =
5 €. It pays for the newspaper, thank you Var matin!
-- For wine
and other products from
Provence,
go to the entrance of la Capte to the store @
ladérive, which offers dozens of different wines at the same
price as property, smile and advice included.
-- For all delicacies,
including fish,
go to Edith Cawell Street, in front of the Railway station,
where you will find many traditional shops quality.
Do not be surprised that we did not give an address in the city centre,
there are probably good traders, but the parking is difficult
and good traders are gradually but inexorably replaced by banks and
estate agencies . The
Hyèrois Charly and Nikol correct my shortcomings
and advise us: "Les
Ceps d'Or, Rue des Porches, who currently directs a portion of its
selection of wines low in sulphites (less headaches for tomorrow
tasting!) and wine from organic farming. Many of choice with a wide
range of prices, expert advice as regards the involvement cooking wine.
" They are quite right regarding sulphites, which eat
sournoisement your stomach.
Restaurants:
As
of to day, more than FIFTY restaurants tested.
You can see their location on the Google
map joined .
With more than 50
restaurants tested, it begins to be a little messy, my page. We will
try to restore some order with a better sorting.
The restaurants are therefore reclassified in a few broad categories:
-- Our best choice (below)
-- On
the beach
-- With a
beautiful view
-- Port St. Pierre
(coming soon in English)
-- Port
Cros and Porquerolles
(
-- Dowtown (coming
soon in English) |
Our best choices:
At the top of our good restaurant addresses,
three houses which have a strong local clientele, definite indication
of good quality. All three remain open almost all year, which is still
a good point. It is the
Bastide, near the beach on la Capte, the Robinson restaurant on the
beach Almanarre, and the brewery Tocco, on the main port Port Saint
Pierre, and we will add the
Poisson Rouge, at the the Niel's Port .
LA BASTIDE, on the
seafront of la Capte, near the small harbour. This is our best choice for lunch
and dinner as well with a very good ratio quality / price. The
young team of the beach restaurant took over the hotel restaurant La
Bastide, not quite on the beach, there is a way to end cross. As
in the past Ponta Pora, the welcome is warm and professional.
The menu is varied, and the prices are still reasonable. The
desserts are homemade or from ice creams of very good quality. Since
the takeover, without any special advertsement, local people are
numerous to come. All
our visits are confirming that this is a place to recommend. The
decoration (which was needed) was redone. The kitchen is impeccable and
leaves much of the ordinary restaurants around the corner, a notch
above the TOCCO and Robinson, we are talking about below, with prices
that are quite comparable. The service is always friendly. The
cocktails are worth alone the visit ! The
restaurant is coupled to a small hotel of 11 rooms recently renovated. It
is wise to book! tel 04 94 58 00 02. Open almost all year. LE ROBINSON:
Ideally placed directly on the beach atl' Almanarre, the
Robinson has survived the regulatory frenzy that gripped the town of
Hyeres. The restaurant, although very close to water, is in fact placed
outside the maritime domain . So much the better for customers
and for employees who avoided layoffs restaurants neighbours (Blue
Zone, demolished by its managers, and the Surf, demolished by the ``
care `` of the Hyères municipality). If
you want to enjoy the sea whatever time is not to be missed! Do not be
fooled by any aspect side road, the sea side and the interior are very
good. The view on the beach is superb, with the added bonus of
sailboards and kite surfs a few metres (except July / August, where the
zone is protected and reserved for bathers). Two terraces and a
beautifully decorated interior space leave you the choice
depending on the wind and sun. Varied
menu with salads, fish, plats du jour at affordable prices, which
change every day. Wines of Provence of good quality. Prices
are very reasonable, although they suffered a serious boost at the
beginning of 2007 season. Service sometimes a little overloaded, but
the context encourages tolerance and everyone wants to enjoy the sun!. The
house has changed ownership in early July 2006, but the new boss has
played continuity, maintaining and improving the card, while improving
the decoration (protection glass nearby
beach , teak flooring, mist on the terrace very pleasant when
hot, etc. ..). What good improvements! The
address is therefore to recommend. It
is wise to book! tel 04 94 57 67 56. Open almost all year.
The
TOCCO
It is the largest Brasserie of Port St Pierre, open
and attended at all times and (almost) all year.
The motto of the house could be "At any moment, there are people at the
TOCCO", which is remarkable for the Port St Pierre, where it is often
very quiet.
The terrace on the port is enjoyable regardless of the time, except by
very strong wind, where it becomes necessary to go inside. The
furniture is pleasant and comfortable. The service is numerous, usually
quick, and always pleasant. Special mention for "small hands" that make
the dishes at the table and walk every day kilometres between the
kitchen and the terrace.
Menu: varied salads, pizzas, plats du jour, fish, quality
meat, varied desserts.
No claim to the gastronomic cooking, as in the neighbour of the
Brasserie des Iles, which raises prices faster than quality, but adds
so reasonable that it would blush of shame a restorer of St. Tropez or
Nice. By way of comparison, the small coffee costs 1.50 euros (in the
region, call it "a pôvre"). You can always try to find at
this price in Paris Montparnasse (or London)!
Highlights: TOCCO accepts cheques, tickets restaurants, cheques holiday
... (not like some of its neighbors, who later complain of the bad
economic situation).
It is wise to book! tel 04 94 57 63 43. Open almost all year.
The
POISSON
ROUGE, on the port of NIEL, south of Giens peninsula,
We add it to our previous selection, because the site is superb and
the
quality of service and cuisine are very regular.
The restaurant overlooks the small harbor of Niel and on the
terrace you have a beautiful sight on the small island of
Grand
Ribaud, with
Porquerolles in the background. A dozen tables have a direct view, all
of them also benefit from the view. The city of Hyères took
over recently the management of the port, very poorly managed
until recently by
the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Toulon, who left the pontoons
to deteriorate to the point where they had to be banned .
Fortunately the emergency measures taken by the municipality of
Hyères led to the return of port to a normal activity.
In 2008, the menu has been expanded and a full range of menus based on
Corsican fish and meat , with various choices. Good
recipes from
Corsican origin. The fish comes from the fishers you see the boats
inside the port. They have virtually knew no ice!
There was in 2007 during the week a 15 €
menu incredible for the region. It was so
incredible that this menu (or very close) is now at 28 €. It
nevertheless remains a good quality / pleasure ratio.
It is wise to book! tel 04 94 58 92 33..
